Senior affordable housing complex topped out at Pico & Crenshaw

The Amani apartments, a $32.7-million senior affordable apartment building from Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation, has reached its peak in Mid-City.

Located on a previously empty lot at the southwest corner of Pico and Crenshaw Boulevards, the project consists of a five-story edifice that will feature 54-unit apartment complex and approximately 2,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space at completion.

Per Wakeland's application for tax credit financing, rents for the apartments at the Amani will start at $548 per month. The apartments, which broke ground in December 2020, are to be reserved for rent by very low-income senior households.

Abode Communities is designing the Amani, which is depicted in a rendering as a contemporary low-rise structure. Planned amenities and ancillary features include a community room, a laundry facility, a roof deck, and a landscaped courtyard.

At the time of the project's groundbreaking, general contractor R.D. Olson Construction has estimated that the Amani would be completed in the third quarter of 2022.
