With the $60-million renovation of Pasadena's DusitD2 Constance Pasadena hotel now complete, the Chinese owners of the historic inn have now begun an expansion onto an adjacent property.
Next-door to the seven-story building at Colorado Boulevard and Mentor Avenue, crews are now building a low-rise extension of the hotel, replacing a collection of one-story commercial structures. The project, budgeted at approximately $25 million, will add 25 guest rooms, an outdoor pool deck and amenities above shops and restaurants along Colorado Boulevard.
Singpoli, the Hong Kong-based firm behind the development, also owns the adjacent Bank of America building sits at Colorado and Lake Avenue. The Los Angeles Times reports that the company may eventually demolish the one-story structure to build an office building of up to $80 million in value. Conceptual renderings portray a seven-story edifice.
According to the Times, the Constance dates back to 1926 when it was built as a resort for East Coast natives looking to escape their region's frigid winters.
