Non-profit developer Abode Communities is planning its latest affordable housing complex in Boyle Heights.
The proposed development, known as La Veranda, is slated for a T-shaped property at 2420 E. Cesar E Chavez Avenue. Plans call for a pair of four-story structures, featuring 77 apartments above 8,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space and parking for 94 vehicles.
With the exception of a manager's unit, all of the two-and-three-bedroom dwellings would be set aside for low income families.
Architectural renderings portray La Veranda with a contemporary design, replete with a podium-level amenity deck and a skybridge linking the two buildings.
The project is being developed on a Metro-owned site, as party of the agency's effort to bolster transit ridership through residential construction near stations. The La Veranda property sits two blocks north of the Gold Line's underground stop at 1st and Soto Streets, where similar affordable housing developments are also planned.
Additional details about the proposed development are unclear.
