After two years, a proposed mixed-use development by Greystar Real Estate Partners is inching forward in North Hollywood.
The Weddington, as the project is known, would consist of a pair of five-story buildings at the intersection of Chandler Boulevard and Blakeslee Avenue, featuring 329 residential units and approximately 4,300 square feet of ground-level commercial space.
Santa Monica-based VTBS Architects has designed two contemporary buildings that would offer a mixture of traditional apartments, live/work lofts and townhouses, in addition to small retail stalls and amenity space.
Past development attempts at the eastern property have engendered controversy due to potential threats to the historic Weddington House, which occupies a small lot along Weddington Street. The 112-year-old bungalow, a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, is the former home of Wilson Weddington, a co-founder of the town of Lankershim - since renamed North Hollywood.
Greystar intends to incorporate the rehabilitated one-story structure into the overall development, using it as multi-purpose space for residents and community groups.
The Weddington is scheduled for consideration at the December 12 meeting of CRA/LA's governing board. Staff have recommended the approval of the project's density bonus, which has been requested in exchange for setting aside apartments for low-income families and disabled persons.
The project sit sits just one block east of Metro's North Hollywood Station, where developers Trammell Crow Company and Greenland USA have teamed up for a transformative mixed-use complex on an adjoining park-and-ride lot.
