An Urbanize reader has sent word that a series of vacant commercial buildings in Brentwood were recently fenced off, signaling the impeneding start of work for a mixed-use development.

The properties, located at 12027-12035 W. Wilshire Boulevard, are slated for a residential-retail complex from Metropolitan Pacific Real Estate Group known as Picasso Brentwood.  A case filing with the Department of City Planning describes the project as a six-story building, featuring 81 market rate and low-income apartments above approximately 7,700 square feet of ground-floor retail space and a 126-car garage.

City records link VTBS Architects to the development, which will feature a mixture of studio, one- and two-bedroom units.

Construction permits were issued for the Picasso development in December 2016, although an exact timeline for the project is unclear.

Metropolitan Pacific is also planning another Picasso-branded apartment complex in Pasadena.
