Plans for a boutique hotel on Venice's trendy Abbott Kinney Boulevard continue to move ahead, with the release of an initial study by the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.
The Venice Place Project - which would occupy most of the block bounded by Abbott Kinney, Broadway Street, Electric and Westminster Avenues - calls for the construction of a trio of freestanding buildings containing three restaurants, office space, retail, four apartments and an 80-room hotel. The new construction would occur around the perimeter of an existing sculpture garden and the Joe's and Primitivo restaurants, which would be preserved.
An official website describes features such as an automated parking garage and various rooftop gardens and decks. Restaurant tenants will include Casa Linda, Felix and a new location for Hal's Bar & Grill.
Local architect David Hertz is designing the project, which renderings portray as an series of airy low-rise buildings wrapped with brick, wood panels and murals.
An construction timeline for developer Wynkoop Properties, LLC is not listed in the project's initial study.
