More than one year after announcing that Creative Artists Agency (CAA) has signed as the property's anchor tenant, Chicago-based developer JMB Realty is quietly starting work on a new office tower in the heart of Century City.
Century City Center, long slated for the large dirt lot at at 1950 Avenue of the Stars, will consist of a 37-story building containing 730,000 square feet of offices directly above the under-construction Century City Metro station.
Johnson Fain is designing the modern glass and steel tower, which will stand approximately 564 feet in height, and be accompanied by two acres of landscaped courtyards and gardens.
JMB Realty announced last year that completion of the tower is expected by 2026.
CAA, which recently completed at $750-million acquisition of ICM Partners, will occupy roughly 400,000 square feet of the building, relocating its headquarters from a neighboring building at 2000 Avenue of the Stars. Bjarke Ingels Group is designing its new space within the building, which will include dining areas, meeting rooms, event spaces, and private lobby, entrance, and parking areas.
JMB Realty has sought to redevelop the site at 1950 Avenue of the Stars since 2005, when the Chicago-based firm first initiated plans for high-rise condominium complex on the site. After securing approvals, the company pivoted toward an office tower in 2011, but later reverted to its original residential plan in 2018. Then, after starting foundation work on the property in 2019, JMB once again reversed course, settling on the office tower.
Century City, one of the bright spots for L.A.'s overall office market, is slated to add even more space in the near future. As part of an overhaul of its studio lot, Fox Corp. recently announced plans for a speculative 35-story office tower a short walk to the south along Avenue of the Stars.
