In East Los Angeles, developer Meta Housing Corp. has announced the completion of the La Paza Apartments, a new affordable housing complex at the intersection of Whittier Boulevard and Downey Avenue.
The project, which sits across the street from the Calvary Cemetery, consists of a three-story building featuring 42 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments, as well as amenities such as a community room, a fitness room, and a central courtyard. Roughly 1,100 square feet of retail space is located at street level.
GGA+ designed La Paz development, which has a stucco exterior accented with corrugated metal panels.
According to Meta Housing Corp. president Kasey Burke, the project comes at a time when more than one million households within Los Angeles County find a standard-sized home in their neighborhood increasingly out of reach.
“La Paz Apartments not only gives individuals a roof over their heads but provides residents with customized services and enrichment programs for residents to grow and thrive in a supportive and vibrant community,” said Burke in a news release.
La Paz is a sister project to another Meta Housing development at the southeast corner of Whittier and Downey. The firm's other under-construction projects are located in Sylmar, North Hills, and Downtown.
