At a ceremony earlier this month, local non-profit The Whole Child and a team of developers announced the groundbreaking of a new campus in Santa Fe Springs that will put interim housing, permanent supportive housing, and new for-sale homes on the same property.

The project, dubbed the "Homeless to Homeowner" campus, will rise from roughly 4.68 acres of land located at 13231 Lakeland Road, on two corners of the street's intersection with Laurel Avenue. The proposed project, which is being developed in partnership with The Richman Group and Habitat for Humanity, will ultimately feature 101 income-restricted apartments, 40 units of interim housing, and 18 for-sale homes.
The rental housing, which will be built by Richman Group at the northwest corner of the intersection, will consist of four separate buildings with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom dwellings, as well as amenities such as a multi-purpose room, a fitness center, a central courtyard, and a garden. Parking for 158 vehicles would be provided within the apartment complex.
At the northeast corner of the intersection, Habitat for Humanity will develop the 18 townhomes, which will be located in three separate structures with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans. As with other Habitat for Humanity projects, the homes would be reserved for purchase by lower-income first-time homebuyers.

SVA Architects is designing the project, which is depicted as a series of contemporary low-rise buildings in renderings.
“We are grateful to The City of Santa Fe Springs, Supervisor Janice Hahn, and our many philanthropic partners for their early and unwavering support of this project," said The Whole Child's chief executive officer Constanza Pachon in a March news release. "We are glad to have found a path to full funding with the support of Governor [Gavin] and Congresswoman [Linda] Sanchez. We are all deeply committed to a shared vision of ending family homelessness.”
