Last week, the Los Angeles City Planning Commission voted to approve plans from a local developer to build mixed-income housing at the site of an early 20th century home in South Park.
The project, submitted to the City of Los Angeles in late 2020 for review, would rise from a roughly 28,000-square-foot property located at 736-738 E. Vernon Avenue. Project applicant Farid Mir, through the entity CLS Vernon, LLC, has proposed the construction of a four-story building containing 48 one- and two-bedroom apartments above 54 parking stalls in a street-level garage.
The proposed apartment complex faced a Planning Commission hearing due to a requested conditional use permit and density bonus to permit a larger building that would be allowed by zoning rules. In exchange, Mir would be required to set aside 13 of the apartments would be set aside as deed-restricted affordable housing at the very low-income level.
Synchronis is designing 736 Vernon development, which is depicted in a conceptual rendering with a modern look and an exterior of metal, stucco, and concrete.
