Skid Row Housing Trust, a nonprofit developer which specializes in permanent supportive housing, is planning two new buildings in Downtown Los Angeles.
At 508 E. 4th Street, SRHT intends to demolish the existing Hart Hotel and replace it with a seven-story structure featuring 40 units of affordable housing and support services.
One block south at 731 E. 5th Street, plans call for demolishing the three-story Edward Hotel to make way for an eight-story building featuring 50 units of very low income housing.
The two projects are likely prompted by Measure S, the March ballot that would prevent the city from granting general plan amendments for private developments. Critics have noted that Measure S would prevent the construction of affordable and supportive housing developments that require general plan amendments, including the two SRHT projects.
Another proposed SRHT development - a 14-story affordable housing complex on 5th Street - would also be prohibited by Measure S.
