Across the street from Mariachi Plaza, a $32-million affordable housing complex by McCormack Baron Salzar is quickly taking form, so shows an image sent by photographer Michael Hayes.
The project, known as the Santa Cecilia Apartments, will feature 80 apartments set aside for families making between 30 and 60 percent of the Los Angeles area median income. Rents will range from $450 to $1,200 per month.
Designed by DE Architects, the five-story building matches the aesthetics of other nearby structures, including the historic Boyle Hotel across the intersection. A small parking lot along the east side of the property provides separation from adjacent homes, while a 4,000-square-foot ground-floor retail space activates the corner of 1st Street and Boyle Avenue.
Completion of the project is expected at some point in 2017.
Developments are also in the works for properties across Boyle Avenue.
