With a nearly six-acre dirt pit as evidence, developer AvalonBay Communities is well into construction on a podium-type mixed-use development in Hollywood.
The Arlington, Virginia-based firm purchased the development site at 6677 Santa Monica Boulevard in 2015, which is entitled for a series of five-to-seven-story buildings featuring 695 apartments and 25,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. Plans also call for 71,000 square feet of open space across the site, including a landscaped paseo cutting across the project site.
Previous renderings of the project, when it was under the ownership of DS Ventures, showed a collection of contemporary mid-rise buildings flanked by outdoor seating and lush greenery. At the time, VTBS Architects was attached to the development.
Additional details are currently unclear.
AvalonBay is currently wrapping up construction on the former Movietown developement a short distance west in West Hollywood.
