Construction is set to begin this week for new bus priority lines connecting the Hollywood area and Baldwin Hills, the City of West Hollywood announced.

The La Brea Avenue bus priority lanes, announced in September 2021, will span roughly 5.9 miles between Sunset Boulevard in the north and Coliseum Street in the south. At completion, the lanes will be in operation during weekdays from 7 am to 10 am in the morning and then from 3 pm to 7 pm in the evening, replacing the additional northbound and southbound travel lanes which exist during peak-hour prohibitions on curbside parking.

The lanes will cut travel times for Metro's 212 bus, as well as the City of West Hollywood's Cityline Commuter service. An estimated 75 percent of bus passengers on the corridor do not own cars, and ride the system at least five times per week. Metro has previously stated that the 212 bus saw more than 12,500 daily boardings prior to the onset of the global pandemic.

Construction of the La Brea bus priority lanes kicked off on December 5, and will continue from Monday through Thursday between 9 am and 3:30 pm and 7 pm and 9 pm throughout December, with the exception of holidays. Construction is expected to continue through mid-January 2023, during which time construction hours will be expanded to include Saturdays between 8 am and 6 pm.

The Larchmont Buzz first reported that construction was set to commence on December 5.
