Affordable housing sprouts at 1120 E 25th Street

In Central-Alameda, a 1940s duplex located just east of one of the neighborhood's namesake streets has made way for new affordable housing.

The project, issued permits one year ago by the L.A. Department of Building and Safety, is now taking shape on a single parcel located at 1120 E. 25th Street. The project, per a description, consists of will include 20 apartments on its upper floors - including 16 low-income affordable units, two extremely low-income units, and one very low-income unit.

Parking is not included in the project, in accordance with AB 744.

City records list the project applicant as Shawn Mahdavian. The same applicant is attached to a similar affordable housing development with 17 residential units now taking one block to the west at 927 E. 25th Street.

Both apartment buildings join a pair of larger projects taking shape along the street which divides the two blocks - South Central Avenue. Highridge Costa recently began work on a larger 57-unit development a few blocks north at 2107 S. Central Avenue, while a 37-unit building rises to the south at 3217 S. Central Avenue.
