Four months after we last dropped in, a new affordable housing complex for artists from The Actors Fund and developer Thomas Safran & Associates is in the home stretch in Hollywood.
The Hollywood Arts Collective, located a block south of the Walk of Fame at 1633 N. Wilcox Avenue, replaced a city-owned surface parking lot with a new seven-story building that will feature 151 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, all reserved for households earning at or below 50, 60, and 80 percent of the Los Angeles area median income level.
BSB Design is designing the Arts Collective, which will also be accompanied by a new performing arts venue, arts galleries, rehearsal studios, and office space that will serve as the western region headquarters for The Actors Fund.
Another component of the project, designed by HGA, will add galleries, rehearsal studios, and an 86-seat theater named for philanthropist Glorya Kaufman to the complex.
Per an application to the State of California for bond funding, rents at the building are expected to range from $518 to $2,110 per month.
Completion of the full mixed-use project is expected in 2024.
Thomas Safran & Associates, in addition to the Arts Collective, is also developing new senior affordable housing next door to the historic Montecito apartments in Hollywood.
