At UC Irvine, construction is in the home stretch for the Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences Building and Sue & Bill Gross Nursing and Health Sciences Hall.
The $134-million project, which has been described as a "flagship" for the future of health education, occupies a roughly nine-acre site just south of UC Irvine's Research Park at the intersection of Bison and California Avenues. The complex includes a five-story, 135,000-square-foot building, now the home of the Health Sciences College, as well as a four-story, 77,000-square-foot building for the school of Nursing.

HED and SLAM Collaborative designed the health complex, which is centered on a landscape courtyard that connects to other nearby facilities within the UC Irvine campus.
The buildings, which have achieved LEED Platinum certification, include teaching labs, a simulation center, and lounge areas on the interior, opening onto courtyards and community spaces at the exterior.

As one might surmise, the two buildings are named after donors Susan and Henry Samueli and William and Sue Gross, who gave a combined sum of $240 million to UC Irvine to fund the construction and operations of the project.
Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction Company was the project's general contractor.
