At the intersection of Anaheim Street and Walnut Avenue in Long Beach, new photos posted to social media by R.D. Olson Construction show that work is now in the home stretch for a mixed-use affordable housing complex from Bridge Housing Corp.
The project, which is located on a previously vacant lot at 1500 E. Anaheim Street, consists of a five-story building which will feature 88 one-, two-, and three-bedroom dwellings above 22,700 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, most of which will be occupied by a medical clinic. The new apartment complex also features a 156-car parking garage at the center of the property.\
SVA Architects designed Anaheim and Walnut, which has a contemporary exterior. Besides housing, the project will include on-site amenities such as a rooftop deck, a central courtyard, and recreation rooms.
At the time Bridge Housing applied for tax credit financing in February 2021, it was estimated that the project would cost $53 million, with monthly rents ranging from $379 to $1,678 per month.
At completion, which is expected later this year, the apartments will be reserved for formerly homeless seniors and low-income families earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income level.
Bridge Housing, based in San Francisco, is developing several affordable apartment communities in Los Angeles County, including new buildings at the Jordan Downs complex in Watts and the Vermont-Manchester complex in South Los Angeles.
