A flyover video posted by the arena's official YouTube account provides a progress report for Intuit Dome, the future home of the Los Angeles Clippers in Inglewood.
The $1.2-billion project, now taking shape at the intersection of Century Boulevard and Prairie Avenue, will be the home of the Clippers starting in the 2024-2025 NBA season. Additionally, the 18,000-seat venue will be the centerpiece of a larger mixed-use project featuring:
- an 85,000-square-foot practice and athletic training facility;
- 71,000 square feet of office space for the Clippers organization;
- a 25,000-square-foot sports medicine clinic;
- 63,000 square feet of ancillary retail;
- a public plaza featuring a large LED screen, a concert stage, and basketball courts;
- a 150-room hotel; and
- parking for 4,125 vehicles.
AECOM is designing Intuit Dome, which has an elliptical footprint and a peak height of 150 feet above ground level. Work is now in progress for one of the signature elements of the building: a metal grid exterior, resembling a basketball net, which is being inlaid with transparent panels. Plans also call for carve-outs in the exterior of the arena, which will be used to create open-air decks on its upper floors.
The arena, named as part of a 23-year agreement with TurboTax and Credit Karma maker Intuit, Inc., serves as a complement the budding sports and entertainment district now taking shape to the north around SoFi Stadium, which the home of both the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers. The 300-acre complex will also include housing, offices, retail, a hotel, and park space on nearly 300 acres of land.
The two large developments have prompted Inglewood to explore a new transit connection which would link both venues and surrounding commercial projects to Metro's K Line. The planned automated people mover system, a 1.6-mile elevated transit system, is expected to cost roughly $1.8 billion and open prior to the 2028 Summer Olympics.
