One month after a 1.1-acre site in East Hollywood was cleared of several abandoned buildings, architecture firm Carrier Johnson + CULTURE has announced the official start of construction for a new mixed-use development on the property.
The 5750 Hollywood Boulevard development, first announced in 2015, will create 161 apartments within a seven-story structure above approximately 5,700 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The project will set aside 14 units a low-income housing, and provide a mixture of loft-style, studio, one- and two-bedroom dwellings, supplemented by amenities such as a fitness center, a courtyard and underground parking for 271 vehicles.
A unique feature of the project is its collection of "shopkeeper units," that will provide living spaces for small business owners above their street-fronting commercial stalls.
Carrier Johnson + CULTURE describes the project as featuring a "lively facade" that creates a strong presence and echoes the architectural motifs of Hollywood. The building will be clad with a mixture of metal panels and ceramic tile.
Project representatives have previously indicated an approximately 18-month buildout for 5750 Hollywood, placing its expected completion date sometime in late 2018 or early 2019.
