The Los Angeles Board of Public Works has approved a plan to build a new pedestrian bridge over the Los Angeles River, reports KPCC.
The 400-foot span, budgeted at $19 million, would allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross between Elysian Valley on the west side of the river with Taylor Yard on the east.
Studio Pali Fekete Architects is designing the project, which would be encased in a boxy orange form.
Construction of the bridge is still several years from beginning.
A simliar bridge, spanning 325 feet between Griffith Park and Atwater Village, is planned a short distance north along the river. The estimated cost of that project, which originally billed as a cost-free gift to the city, has recently swelled to more than $16 million.
