Nearly five years after the project was approved by the Los Angeles City Council, a new hotel is starting to take shape on a mid-block site just south of Wilshire Boulevard in Koreatown.

The new development, now taking shape on what was once a surface parking lot at 679 S. Harvard Boulevard, is permitted for the construction of a seven-story building featuring 110 guest rooms above 1,840 square feet of ground-floor retail space and parking for 80 vehicles.

While Corbel Architects had designed the entitled project, portrayed as a contemporary low-rise structure clad in fiber cement boards, sheet metal panels, concrete and porcelain tile, AXIS/GFA has since taken the lead in the design of the building. Renderings portray the finished product with a large rooftop deck and an exterior of painted plaster.

The change in architect also coincided with a change in ownership: Jamison Services, Koreatown's biggest commercial and residential landlord, acquired the land for $5.25 million in 2018. The company is responsible for a number of nearby developments, including the 209-unit Luna on Wilshire apartments to the north and a proposed two-tower complex on the opposite side of Harvard Boulevard.

The site also sits one block south a notable recent addition to Koreatown: the Wilshire Boulevard Temple's Audrey Irmas Pavilion, which was designed by OMA's Rem Koolhaas.
