Last week, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to approve loans totaling $8.9 million to fund four development that would create 248 apartments for homeless and low-income households.
The first two projects, both of which come from the nonprofit developer Meta Housing, calls for the construction of two low-rise buildings at the northwest and southeast corners of Whittier Boulevard and Downey Road in unincorporated East Los Angeles. The combined development will create 113 apartment units, situated above street-level commercial space and subterranean parking.
Meta Housing is seeking approximately $4.9 million from Los Angeles County to go towards the approximately $54-million project.
In Westlake, SRO Housing Corp. has requested $1.5 million from the County in pursuit of the Hartford Villa Apartments, a proposed seven-story building at 459 S. Hartford Avenue. A full buildout of the project, which is budgeted at $36 million, would create 101 units of affordable housing.
Santa Monica-based KFA is designing the podium-type development.
Lastly, East L.A. Community Corporation is seeking $2.5 million to assist with the development of phase two of its Whittier Place Apartments, which would include 34 units of affordable housing. The nearly $16-million development follows the already-completed first phase of the apartment complex, which is located on Whittier Boulevard in unincorporated East Los Angeles.
