Three years after acquiring the L'Ermitage Beverly Hills hotel for $100 million, New York-based EOS Investors is embarking on a renovation of the 1970s property at 9291 Burton Way.
The $15-milliion project, detailed in a presentation given on October 26 to the Beverly Hills Planning Commission, would focus its efforts on the hotel rooftop area, with a request to provide a new bar and restaurant for both the public and hotel patrons. The eight-story building envelope and 119 guest rooms would be retained, as would existing subterranean parking accommodations for 129 vehicles.
WATG is designing the renovation, which is also shown in renderings to refresh the exterior of the hotel as well, with new finishes and alterations to open up the main entrance along Burton Way.
The project, which has yet to receive approval, requires amendments to existing entitlements which permit the operation of a hotel within the Beverly Hills R-4 Zone, as well as an amendment to the city's zoning code.
EOS came into posession of the L'Ermitage as the result of a 2016 seizure of the property from Jho Low, a Malaysian businessman who was found to have purchased the hotel using embezzled funds which had been intended for economic development purposes in Malaysia. The property saw the completion a $37-million renovation that same year.
The hotel sits immediately south of a city-owned property where Beverly Hills officials are considering plans for a large senior affordable housing complex.
