Local developer A.J. Khair has retooled plans to construct a new hotel at 1925 Wilcox Avenue in Hollywood.
The redesign by Roschen Van Cleve Architects "will incorporate an existing historical building," and match the form of early 20th century Hollywood architecture, according to a project page the developer's website. Plans now call for a five-story, 144-room hotel with two levels of underground parking and amenities such as a ground-floor restaurant, a swimming pool and a fitness center.
The new design is starkly different than the previous vision presented in 2015, which called for a more contemporary six-story building. Roschen Van Cleve's version of the project takes cues from the existing one-story building on the property, which has operated as an automobile showroom since it was built in the mid 1920s. A historic resources survey conducted by the City of Los Angeles notes that these types of buildings were typified by over-scaled display windows.
A number of similar hotel developments are also in the works to the south at 1523 and 1717 Wilcox Avenue.
