At a "virtual" groundbreaking ceremony in late November, Bridge Housing Corporation marked the start of construction on the latest component of the massive Jordan Downs redevelopment in Watts.

The Jordan Downs Phase 3B project, located on 1.98 acres of land on the northern side of the public housing complex, will consist of 119 one-, two-, three-, four-, and five-bedroom apartments in buildings ranging from two to four stories in height. Of that total, 107 units will be restricted to renter households earning between 30 and 80 percent of the area median income level, while the remaining 12 units will be priced at market rate.

KTGY is designing Phase 3b, which includes contemporary low-rise structures oriented around new public paseos and green spaces. The complex will also include retail, childcare facilities, and other gathering areas.

Portrait Construction, Inc. is serving as the project's general contractor, per a landing page on the Bridge Housing website.

Completion of Phase 3b is expected in 2025.

Jordan Downs, built to house factory workers during World War II, was transformed into public housing during the 1950s. The new project from Bridge Housing is one component of a master plan which will eventually double the amount of housing at Jordan Downs from its original total of 700 units to approximately 1,400 homes, while also adding nine acres of public park space. The project also includes a new retail center at Century Boulevard and Alameda Street.
