In advance of the Measure S vote in March, nonprofit developer Meta Housing Corp. submitted an application to redevelop the LAMP Lodge in Downtown Los Angeles with a larger building that would create 82 units of permanent supportive housing. A new presentation to the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council's Planning and Land Use Commitee offers up a second look at the project, which now features a more colorful exterior than initially presented four months ago.
Slated for a property at 656-660 S. Stanford Avenue, the proposed development would replace an existing SRO building which houses 42 tenants. Following the relocation of existing residents, Meta would raze the three-story brick structure to allow for the construction of a new six-story edifice with one level of parking.
The project, designed by Killefer Flammang Architects, would offer mostly studio units with a handful of one-bedroom apartments. Additionally, plans call for various amenities and on-site facilities such as resident facilities, a laundry room, a community room, a tenant garden and a central courtyard.
In March 2013, Meta's Senior Vice President Aaron Mandel stated that the LAMP Lodge development was expected to begin construction by June 2018, with completion to follow in December 2019.
