A pair of small apartment building near the intersection of Santa Monica and La Cienega Boulevards in Beverly Grove could make way for affordable housing, per an application recently filed with the City of Los Angeles.

The proposed project at 845 N. Alfred Street, which utilizes the Mayor's Executive Directive 1, would rise from a corner site with frontage on Willoughby Avenue to the north. Plans call razing eight existing apartments to clear the way for a new seven-story edifice which would feature 144 studio and one-bedroom dwellings without on-site parking.
According to the application, the apartments would be priced for a mix of moderate-, low-, and very low-income households. That would enable the use of development incentives to permit a larger structure than otherwise allowed by zoning rules.
Kevin Tsai Architecture is designing 845 Alfred, which is portrayed in a rendering as a contemporary podium-type building clad in painted plaster and aluminum panels. Floor plans depict a building with a C-shaped footprint wrapping around a street-level courtyard.
