A new video offers an animated preview of (W)rapper, an outlandish office building planned next to the Expo Line's La Cienega/Jefferson Station.
The project, which has been planned for nearly 20 years, will be a 17-story tower featuring 160,000 square feet of rentable space above a subterranean parking structure. Developer Samitaur Constructs previously told the Los Angeles Times that the building would command rents of $4 per square foot.
(W)rapper is effectively an extension of the Hayden Tract, the industrial-turned-creative-office district located west across Ballona Creek in Culver City limits. Architect Eric Owen Moss, who has collaborated with Samitaur on a series sculpture-like buildings, imagines the proposed 230-foot tower with a weaving exoskeleton of curved, steel beams.
Samitaur and Moss had initially proposed a larger two-tower complex in the late 1990s, but eventually scaled back its plan to the current one-building arrangement.
Excavation for the project's underground parking garage is expected to begin in approximately two months.
