The rehabilitation of the historic Olympic Theatre is nearing completion on 8th Street in the Historic Core, which will soon become a new store for the clothing retailer COS.

Originally built in 1917 as a restaurant, the low-rise structure was converted into Bard's 8th Street Theatre in 1927 for a cost of $200,000.  It would be renamed less than five years later in anticipation of the 1932 Summer Olympic Games.

The theatre now, which ceased operations as a movie venue in 1997, now offers approximately 9,800 square feet of rentable space, spread a cross basement, ground and mezzanine levels.  COS, which is the high-end brand of H&M, will occupy the entirety of the building.

The Olympic sits directly across the street from the immense Broadway Trade Center, a former department store that is being transformed into a mixed-use complex featuring offices, a hotel and a food hall.  Another nearby property, the long-vacant Merritt Building, is being revived with office space.
