In Koreatown, exterior work is all but complete for Kara, yet another multifamily residential development from Jamison Services, Inc.
The project, built just south of 8th Street on a site at 815-832 S. Kingsley Drive, is a six-story building featuring 114 apartments above two-level, 162-car basement parking garage.
Jamison secured approvals for the project using Transit Oriented Communities development incentives to permit a larger structure than normally allowed by zoning rules. In exchange, 12 apartments must be set for rent as deed-restricted affordable housing at the extremely low-income level.
DFH Architects designed the contemporary podium-type building, which is clad in gray stucco. Plans also show amenities such as a rooftop deck, a podium-level courtyard, and several interior common rooms.
The project is one of at least a half-dozen similar mixed-use projects planned or underway on sites along either side of 8th Street through Koreatown, several of which were built by Jamison Services. That includes the neighboring Harper apartments, a mixed-use structure which abuts Kara at 8th Street and Harvard Boulevard.
