In Exposition Park, service provider and developer Wellnest has broken ground on a new interim housing facility catering to transition age youth.
The Nest on Exposition, which will replace surface parking lot located just west of Exposition Boulevard's intersection with Vermont Avenue, will feature 25 apartments - averaging roughly 300 square feet in size - as well as a laundry facility, offices for service providers, and community rooms.
LOHA is designing the Nest, which is portrayed in a rendering as a contemporary four-story structure clad in corrugated metal.
The project is being funded through an allocation to Los Angeles County through Project Homekey. At the time the funding was announced, the Nest was expected to cater to youth in foster care and juvenile probation systems, with 16 apartments to be set aside for participants in the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services Transitional Housing Program Plus.
Wellnest, in addition to the Exposition Park project, also has plans for permanent supportive housing on Jefferson Boulevard in Historic South-Central.
