The Broad has announced plans for new public artwork at the intersection of 2nd Street and Grand Avenue, just outside of its main entrance.

The display, dubbed Couleur Additive, comes from the Venezuelan-born artist Carlos Cruz-Diez and the Cruz-Diez Art Foundation.

From September 2017 into January 2018, the four crosswalks and 2nd and Grand will be painted with varying strips of green and orange.  This type of display has been a hallmark of Cruz-Diez’s work since 1975, and has resulted “ephemeral interventions” at crosswalks and walkways around the world.

High school students from the nearby Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts have been asked to participate of the painting of Coleur Additive, starting on September 5.
