A series of small rental buildings in Monterey Park could give way to condominiums, according to a new environmental report.

The proposed development, planned for a 1.73-acre property at 338-410 S. Alhambra Avenue, comes from co-applicants The commons of MPK, LLC and Longo Realty, Inc. Plans call for razing a 14 rental units, a single-family home, and an accessory dwelling unit to make way for the construction of 64 condominiums and parking. The complex would include eight three-bedroom townhomes, as well as 57 one-, two-, and three-bedroom flats ranging from 645 to 1,300 square feet in size.

In exchange for density bonus incentives permitting a larger structure than allowed by zoning rules, seven of the new dwellings would be restricted to very low-income households.

Tag Design Works is the architects for the residential complex, which would rise up to five stories in height and include a central courtyard.

According to the environmental study, construction is expected to occur over a 19-month period commencing as early as Fall 2024.
