Later this month, various city agencies will hold a community meeting to garner community feedback on a proposed pocket park adjacent to the Pio Pico - Koreatown Branch Library.

The project, which is being lead by the Bureau of Engineering and the office of City Council President Herb Wesson, would replace the library's half-acre parking lot with green space above an underground garage.  A staff report estimates an approximately $13-million construction budget, sourced from a mixture of Quimby funds, CRA/LA bond funds and other city revenues.

At the current time, the City of Los Angeles is soliciting architects, landscape architects, engineers and other consultants to work on the project.

Located at the northeast corner of 7th Street and Oxford Avenue, the pocket park follows a failed effort to build a Koreatown "Central Park" on a long vacant lot one block west at Wilshire and Hobart Boulevards.  Developer CityView has since started building apartments on the property.

The library site sits just immediately south of the Wilshire Park Place office building, which is known for a private grass field that fronts the north side of the lot.  Owner Jamison Services has initiated plans to redevelop that portion of the property with a mixed-use high-rise complex.

The community meeting will on Thursday, September 28 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm at the Pio Pico - Koreatown Branch Library.
