The site of a shuttered Burger King restaurant at Central Avenue and Doran Street in Downtown Glendale has made way for the construction of a new hotel.

The new Hotel Indigo, a project from VK Group, was approved in 2020 by the Glendale City Council. The project at 515 N. Central Avenue calls for the construction of a seven-story building featuring 142 guest rooms, as well as amenities such as a pool deck, a fitness room, meeting rooms, and a 137-car underground garage.

AC Martin is designing the Hotel Indigo, which is depicted in renderings with a U-shaped footprint wrapping around a street-fronting courtyard. The building's architecture was previously described as taking from the Chicago and Industrial Age styles, with an exterior featuring brick, stone, and metal.

At the time of the project's approval in early 2020, it was thought that construction of the Hotel Indigo could begin as early as the end of that year.

The project site is flanked by several recent mixed-use and multifamily residential developments, such as Altana Glendale and the NEXT on Lex apartments. Other upcoming projects in the near vicinity include a two-tower, 858-unit apartment complex proposed at 601 N. Brand Boulevard by Onni Group.

Other Hotel Indigo locations include a 350-key outpost at the Metropolis development in Downtown Los Angeles.
