The Los Angeles Clippers officially have an arena to call their own.
A Bruno Mars concert held Friday was the inaugural event for Intuit Dome, the team's new $2-billion home in Inglewood. Located at the southeast corner of Century Boulevard and Prairie Avenue, the 18,000-seat arena is the centerpiece of a complex that also includes new offices and a training facility for the team, a sports medicine facility, and 63,000 square feet of retail space. A 150-room hotel is to be developed at a later date.
AECOM designed the arena, which rises approximately 150 feet in height, and has an elliptical footprint with a metal grid modeled after the pattern of a basketball net. Inside, a 40,000-square-foot halo board hovers above the arena bowl, featuring a quarter billion LED lights, as well as a display in the concourse featuring jerseys from high school basketball teams across the state of California.
The entrance to the arena is adorned with public artwork by Patrick Martinez, Kyungmi Shin, and Michael Massenburg, which greet passersby along Century and Prairie. Once inside the property, visitors can see a sculpture from Glenn Kaino and digital artwork by Refik Anadol.
The arena itself is also a canvas - Jennifer Steinkamp's Swoosh illuminates the exterior of Intuit Dome, with animation that weaves through the structure's geometric patterns.
The Clippers will play their first game here at the start of the 2024-2025 NBA season.
The site is located within walking distance of a planned transit system which would connect with Sofi Stadium to Metro's K Line. The future automated people mover system, a 1.6-mile elevated transit system, is expected to open in 2030.
