Irvine-based DKN Hotels has big plans for a property just across the street from the Burbank Town Center shopping mall.
According to an initial study now being circulated by the City of Burbank, DKN is seeking approvals to raze an existing building and a surface parking lot at 550 N. 3rd Street to allow for the construction of a six-story AC Hotel, consisting of 196 guest rooms, 3,800 square feet of ground-floor restaurant space and underground parking for 196 vehicles. proposed ancillary features include a fitness center, a pool deck, an outdoor courtyard and a rooftop observation area.
Architecture firm Togawa Smith Martin is designing the project, which would employ a facade of stucco, glass and blue-colored metal.
The initial study forecasts a 19-month construction timeline starting in March 2018.
An earlier plan to develop apartments on the property were scuttled in 2015, when a member of the Burbank City Council unexpectedly pulled his support for the project, leaving it without sufficient votes to secure entitlements.
Directly across the street, Burbank Town Center is slated to undergo a redevelopment of its own, with a now-vacant Ikea expected to give way for apartments, condominiums, hotels and retail space, with buildings up to 15 stories in height.
