The site of a shuttered school in Duarte is set for redevelopment with townhomes, according to a new initial study.
The Andres Duarte Arts Academy, located at 1433 Crestfield Drive, closed 2022 due to low enrollment. A preschool leases some of the mostly-vacant property, but is planning to relocate.
The Duarte Unified School District has since inked a lease agreement with Crestfield Townhomes, LLC for the redevelopment of the property with a series of three-story structures featuring 169 three- and four-bedroom townhomes - ranging from 1,358 to 1,465 square feet in size - accompanied by 338 parking spaces.
The approximately 14-acre development site also includes the Otis Gordon Sports Park, which is to be redeveloped, but retained as park space. The approximately 6.3-acre area would include sports fields, an open turf area, picnic tables, restaurants, an outdoor gym, walking paths, and a parking lot for 59 vehicles.
Pending approvals, including a general plan amendment and a zone change, construction is expected to take place over a 29-month period starting in April 2026 and concluding by September 2028.
