The City of Long Beach has announced that ASM Global/Legends has been selected to operate the Long Beach Bowl, an amphitheater planned next to the Queen Mary along the city's waterfront.
“This is a transformative time for Long Beach as we continue raising our position as a leading destination for the arts, entertainment and tourism in Southern California,” said Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson in a news release. “We are excited to be partnering with ASM Global/Legends, an industry leader that shares our commitment to excellence and innovation, to showcase Long Beach to the world and welcome musical talents and visitors from around the globe to our beautiful city.”
ASM Global/Legends, which already manages the Long Beach Convention Center, will be tasked with maintaining the daily operations of the amphitheater, including booking events, marketing, and staffing.
Current plans call for a temporary structure which would occupy a five-to-six-acre site along Queens Highway near Harry Bridges Memorial Park. The temporary bowl would host up to 40 events each year and have seating for up to 12,000 attendees. It will operate for an initial five-year period, with the possibility of extensions until a permanent venue can be funded and constructed.
Construction of the temporary Long Beach Bowl is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
Long Beach is not the only waterfront community with designs on a new concert venue. A 6,200-seat amphitheater is also to be built as part of the West Harbor development in San Pedro.
