Just south of Wilshire Boulevard in Koreatown, wood framing is starting to rise for a new multifamily residential development from Harridge Development.
The project, which replaces a surface parking lot at 684 S. New Hampshire Avenue, will eventually consist of a seven-story building featuring 170 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments atop 900 square feet of ground-floor retail space and a three-level, 253-car underground parking structure.
Archeon Group is designing the project, which is depicted in renderings as a contemporary podium-type building.
The new apartment complex is one of three components of a larger project entitled by Harridge, spanning the east side of New Hampshire between Wilshire and 7th Street. The first element of the project, the 36-story Hallasan apartment tower, was developed separately by Holland Partner Group and completed in 2023.
Immediately north, the former Wilshire Galleria - a historic I. Magnin department store turned indoor mall - is also being converted to housing as the third and final component of the project. Plans call for transforming the existing five-story frame into a nine-story building through the addition of mezzanines and a rooftop penthouse, creating 107 residential units and more than 29,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial uses
