Four years after it closed its doors, the former Fry's Electronics near Hollywood Burbank Airport and its iconic flying saucer have bitten the dust.

Demolition of the store, which sits on an eight-acre property at 2311 Hollywood Way, will clear the way for the construction of LaTerra Development's Burbank Aero Crossings, which was approved by the City of Burbank in 2021. Plans call for the construction of two seven-story buildings at featuring 862 residential units with 9,700 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and a central parking structure.

TCA Architects is serving as the architect of record for the project, which was also approved with up to 152,000 square feet of office space.

An exact timeline for the project, which was once expected to break ground in 2023, is currently unclear.

Aero Crossings is the second large development for LaTerra in Burbank, following a 573-unit complex located at 777 N. Front Street near the city's downtown Metrolink Station.

The Fry's chain, which went out of business in 2021, left behind prime real estate at several locations in Southern California. One other has already been scooped up for redevelopment - the former Warner Center store at 6100 Canoga Avenue is set to make way for a 1.1 million-square-foot complex featuring housing and a hotel.
