The City of San Marino has given the all-clear to the Huntington Library for the construction of new housing on the northern side of its more than 200-acre campus.

Scholar's Grove at the Huntington Library, which will rise at 1151 Oxford Road, calls for the construction of seven two-story buildings, consisting of 34,724 square feet of floor area and 33 residential units. Plans also call for a 3,312-square-foot clubhouse and parking for 98 vehicles.

VTBS Architects is designing the Scholar's Grove, which would have a Mediterranean-style look.

The project is being funded by a $40-million gift from the late Charlie Munger, who intended for the new housing to provide temporary lodging for visiting fellows at The Huntington.

The new housing will connect to the rest of the campus, and be accessible from one of the property's original gates off of Orlando Road.
