The Norwalk Planning Commission has signed off on a proposed development which would bring housing to redevelop the site of a bowling alley near the terminus if the I-105 Freeway with housing.

The proposed project from Meritage Homes, slated for the a 4.5-acre property at 11459 Imperial Highway now occupied by Keystone Lanes, calls for the construction of 93 residential units. Plans call for a mix of two- and three-bedroom floor plans, ranging from 1,216 to 2,002 square feet in size, and each accompanied by a ground-level garage.

Kevin L. Crook Architect is designing the three-story buildings, which have a contemporary style. Traditional townhomes will be located toward the rear of the site, while the property's Imperial Highway frontage will be lined with 10 live/work units.

Besides housing, the project includes a common driveway and shared open space at the rear of the property.

The site sits on the outskirts of the historic core of Norwalk, where planning officials have looked to revamp zoning in a bid to create upwards of 3,000 new homes.
