A 1950s apartment complex near the E Line's Palms Station is to to make way for apartments, per a new application to the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.
The proposed project from property owner United El Segundo, which would rise at 9800 National Boulevard, calls for razing an existing two-story, 22-unit apartment complex to clear the way for the contsruction of a new eight-story edifice featuring 65 homes above parking for 62 vehicles.
Requested entitlements include density bonus incentives to permit a larger structure than would otherwise be allowed by zoning rules. In exchange, six of the apartments are to be set aside for rent as affordable housing at the very low-income level.
A preliminary application submitted ealier this year to the Planning Department for review indicates that SCB is designing the proposed project.
The project site is located roughly a half-mile from a property at National Boulevard and Canfield Avenue which UCLA recently purchased to serve as student housing.
United El Segundo is attached to several mixed-use or commercial developments in the Los Angeles area.
