The site of a shuttered Joann’s Fabric and Crafts Store is slated to be transformed into a park, reports the Glendale News-Press.
Last month, the Glendale City Council voted to approve the purchase of the 2.3-acre property at 1000 S. Central Avenue for $24.7 million. The site would provide green space in a part of Glendale with just 0.3 acres of green space per 1,000 residents.
Moving forward, the city is to work with a consultant on marketing and community outreach for the project, with the aim of presenting conceptual plans to the City Council within the next year.
Funding sources for the purchase include more than $22 million from the City of Glendale and a $2.3-million grant from Los Angeles County.
According to the News-Press, the park would be the fifth largest in the southern part of Glendale.
