At a ceremony in late August, developer Linc Housing and officials with the City and County of Los Angeles marked the debut of Atlas, an apartment building in South Los Angeles which was converted into affordable and permanent supportive housing through Project Homekey.

Atlas, which is named for the Atlas butterfly, is located at 1654 Florence Avenue. The five-story building features 127 total apartments, including 60 for chronically homeless renters and 66 for those at risk of becoming homeless. All residents were referred by the County's Homeless Prevention Unit.

The low-rise structure was initially developed by Haroni Investments, which frequently builds apartments in South Los Angeles, and was slated to be a predominantly market-rate development with 13 affordable units. The converted building also includes a community room, case management offices, courtyards, and a rooftop amenity deck.

Funding for the conversion to affordable housing came through Project Homekey, as well as Measure HHH and the American Rescue Plan. Vouchers for residents are provided by the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles, while the County provides funding for on-site services.
