A maintenance facility used by the City of Hawthorne's Public Works Department is set to be redeveloped as a public park, per a new environmental notice.

The new pocket park, named Water Tower Park for the nearby Hawthorne landmark, would rise at 4623 Michu Lane. PLans call for the installation of:

  • landscaping and trees;
  • benches and seating areas;
  • children’s play areas;
  • a playground;
  • a shaded picnic area;
  • a multi-sport court;
  • two fitness stations;
  • and restrooms.

No on-site parking is proposed.

The new park is expected to serve residents within a quarter-mile radius of the property. That group will include residents of a new 68-unit townhome complex taking now under construction at the former Hawthorne Nursery property along El Segundo Boulevard to the south.
