Construction forges ahead for a new surgical hospital near Mid-Wilshire's notorious asterisk, based on new images provided by Swinerton. 

DOCS Surgical Hospital, under construction since 2023 at 6000 S. San Vicente Boulevard, consist of a five-story building which will feature four operating theaters and an imaging center when complete. Additionally, plans also call for medical offices, a pharmacy, ground-floor commercial space, and a 40-car garage.

The project recently marked its "closing-in" phase, meaning that work has now moved on to the start of interior metal stud framing, the placement of concrete for the slab-on-grade, and the installation of site utilities. 

The steel-frame structure, designed by Mesa Design Architects, will include a rooftop  "healing garden" is to be provided for use by patients and visitors.

The project is motivated in part by AB 2190, which required the replacement of hospital facilities to comply with modern seismic standards. The prior DOCS facility, a single-story structure located adjacent to the new building, was demolished in early 2025.

DOCS is building its new facility across the street from UCLA's upcoming neuropsychiatric hospital, now under construction at the former site of Olympia Medical Center.
