At an early February meeting, the La Cañada Flintridge City Council has signed off on a proposal to build townhomes on an empty property located north of Foothill Boulevard.
The project from MJL Properties of Pasadena, slated for a site at 4600 Ocean View Boulevard, calls for the construction of a series of three-story buildings featuring 30 four-bedroom townhomes with associated parking.
Corbel Architects is designing the proposed project, which would be arranged in two rows, arranged north-to-south, along a common driveway with access off of both Ocean View Boulevard and Rockland Place.
The vote by the City Council to approve the project reversed a December 2025 decision from the City's Planning Commission to reject the same proposal. That vote prompted letters from both legal advocacy groups and the California Department of Housing and Community Development urging the City to reverse course, stating that rejecting the project would violate state law.
This would not be the first time that La Cañada Flintridge has reversed course on housing due to blowback due to state law. The City was notably forced to approved a Builder's Remedy project at 600 Foothill Boulevard last year.
